Features Il Popolo Tortona
June 13, 1896: the first issue of “Il Popolo - Illustrated weekly Corriere of the Diocese of Tortona” comes out.
It is the fruit of the far-sighted intelligence of Bishop Igino Bandi. From 1896 to the present day "Il Popolo" continues to tell the social and religious life of the women and men who inhabit the vast and articulated territory of the diocese and which unites three provinces - Alessandria, Pavia and Genoa - located in as many regions - Piedmont , Lombardy and Liguria. It has revealed itself and still is, also by reason of geography, a precious instrument of information, of culture, of communion.A newspaper whose history is necessarily intertwined with that of the diocese and the bishops who led it; a set of directors and editors and collaborators and the wider social context in which they found themselves operating. In 1998 the direction of the newspaper was taken over by Msgr.
Pier Giorgio Pruzzi who unified the three historic newspapers (Tortona, Novi Ligure, Oltrepò) into one and who renewed the weekly in terms of layout and content. As Antonio Giorgi noted, in the issue of 9 June 2016, on the occasion of the 120th anniversary, "this sheet has never been provincial, in the mean sense of the term, nor a newspaper closed in its world, attentive only to the detail of the bell tower ...
or country.
It was and is a newspaper open to the most diverse realities and to the complexity of the world around us ".
From 8 September 2019 the director of the weekly is Matteo Colombo.
